Allway Sync

Allway Sync is a free app which allows you to backup and Sync files between your computer and a drive. Network drives included.

From the day I've been using this, this is definitely something I would first install on a new computer.  You can have it on at all times, to automatically sync your files to a specific folder on a drive, if that drive is always on; or if you, lets say, have a thumb drive, you can just set it to manual sync--sync when you want to.

Overall, this app is great. It doesn't look too good, [design] but it is definitely powerful, and gets the job done.

If I were to get a Mac, which of these? Results!

Today, MacBook + Pro Line Updates

Firstly, today the 2GB shuffle is now available to purchase, which I may, considering it's fairly cheap, and I recently sold my old mp3 player to a friend.

Secondly, The new MacBooks and MacBook Pros have been released today! The update wasn't much, as I was hoping for a newer keyboard design for the MacBook Pros, but both types of MacBooks now have a faster processor and a bigger hard drive. The MacBook Pros, however, now have the multi-touch trackpad -- which is on the MacBook air.

Overall, it's really not that interesting of an update. I haven't tried the multi-touch gestures on the MacBook air, but from what I've seen, they don't seem like I would use them that often.

Don't Engrave your iPods!

Especially if you ever plan to return it to the Apple Store and/or sell it.
Look what I found on the Apple Website: "your engraved order can't be returned." This is found right after you select your iPod on the product page.

'Course, who would want to buy an iPod with something engraved on it anyway?

How to change your home page in firefox.

This is a simple tutorial on how to change your home page in firefox. I know a lot of you already know how to do this, but it is my featured article on Helium, and I've earned the most from it. So, I thought I'd link you to it.

Mac Book Pro Update, soon?

The stars have been further aligning up lately on the new MacBook Pros. If you are thinking about making an Apple laptop purchase hold out for a week or so. MacRumors thinks it will be within two weeks and some new battery specs have hit the interwebs. Also we've been hearing stories from retailers that new SKU's for MacBook Pros are hitting the streets (anyone care to elaborate?)...So our predictions are as follows:

  • No big announcement and not released at Macworld so just minor upgrades, not major overhaul (bummer)
  • Same basic design/form
  • May be packaged with 10.5.2
  • Keyboard like MacBook Air
  • Most likely bigger multi-touch trackpad that looks much like the MacBook Air's - same functionality
  • 45nm Penryn chips will be marginally faster and save 10%ish on battery usage, upgraded graphics cards as well
  • Same price points, 3 models - two 15's and a 17 (now LED screened) Hopefully, but sadly doubtful 3G or WiMAX (We know we keep saying it but hopefully Apple will listen)
  • Possibility being thinner package and of SSD option or hybrid config

Unification Wars

Unification Wars is a Scifi Space Strategy Sim Massive Online Game.

Now, I'll let my friend write the rest, as he knows a lot more about it than I do.

UC (Unification Wars) is one of the very little bit better than average text-based mmorpgs on the web.

Its game play can be highly addictive , which is proven by the fact that many of its players stick around for several years. It features around 500 active players at a time with an in-game chat. Players can attack other players that are both online and offline. 30 hours of damage protection are given to each player allowing a person to log in for an hour or two, play and talk, and then log back out. New players are given automatic protection until they rise above the newbie power rating cap (power rating determines your strength)

Power rating is determined by ships, which each have their own PR values. Ships are equipped with one or two of the four possible weapon types. Players will attack each other with six stacks of ships (stacks are composed of different ships. 6 different types of ships would go into a separate stacks , the maximum being six stacks for the attacker.) Players will usually attempt to line up a specific ship that is strong against another kind of ship to try and win the battle.

Players have 4 differnet types of attacks they can use, with "Invasion" being the most used. Invading for planets (The Minimum you can win is 750, because planets are rated in the thousands. For example, 65k planets is a very low amount, and 5 million planets is the average amount for the higher ranking players) is the goal of the game, with obtaining as many as you can being your ultimate goal. You can do this either by attacking other players or by exploring. (You can only explore up to 500k planets) Joining a federation will allow a player to make friends and grow stronger and better in a short period of time, including the added effect of gaining planets. Federation members can send ships to support each other in battle. Federations can ally with each other and declare on other federations. Federation wars however, are meaningless in the fact that neither side can actually win one. There are no penalties or losses suffered by the losing fed either.

Non-military features only include artifacts, the research of technology and infrastructure, and an intergalactic market, in which players can buy minerals to build their ships, or purchase Food, Raw Material, and Consumer Goods, to fuel one of the five types of economies a player can focus their empire on. Besides these , the game is sorely lacking in any non-military related features. Additional drawbacks that the game suffers from are a horrible and outdated forum, extremely relative chat rules that are based on the moderators opinion, the games founder, stephen, who updates the game every two months at best. Bugs and glitches are still large in number , and many of the games rules are a negative influence on the game. Players are banned easily and other players will not dare to speak out about it in fear of being banned by the administrators who hold almost "godlike" powers.

This is a good game overall, and will satisfy many players who play it. It is probably one of the better text-based strategy games out there. The lack of updates will annoy many a player though. More updates will unlock this game's potential to be one of the best text-based strategy games around. Do be careful about speaking your mind, as the administrators can be harsh without mercy.
